Highway 290 West is slated for expansion from the "Y" at Oak Hill Southwest to Dripping Springs.
There is significant debate regarding the proper way to expand this important highway. It appears that the growth pressure of Southern Travis and Northern Hays counties is pushing txdot to move quickly towards a solution.
Everyone agrees that something must be done and done soon.....it appears that approval was granted in October of 2007 to move forward on this important widening effort. Specific timelines remain a bit elusive at this time. An article in the Community Impact Newletter of April 2008 projects construction start dates of 2010 for the 290 West widening and 2011 for the Highway 71 West widening. At this time a significant improvement is underway on the 71 West leg, near Bee Caves but the "Y" at Oak Hill remains in limbo.
